Actor Adam Brodyknown for his role of Seth Cohen in The O.C., recently regretted his unprofessional behavior during the iconic show’s final seasons. In the newly released book Welcome to the OC: The Oral History, the actor admits that his behavior became unprofessional in the seasons following the first season as he became dissatisfied with the quality of the show.

I was still polite to everyone. I liked the directors and crew. I had a great time and didn’t keep people waiting. I would never, ever yell or scream in someone’s face, or say anything damn mean. But I think I made my disdain for those later episodes pretty clear. I didn’t hide it at all and I even think I made some explicit irony about it. And I’m not proud of it” Body said.

I had started to be less interested from a creative point of view. I blame myself for the lack of professionalism and for the lack of respect for the work we were doing. In terms of overall engagement, I’ll just say that the first season seems to belong to a different series from the subsequent ones. If the quality had remained the same as the first season, I’m sure I would have been much more involved. Quality and my involvement went hand in hand“, concluded the actor.

The words of the cast and the creator

Brody wasn’t the only one who didn’t like the subsequent seasons, it was a general discontent. Julie Cooper’s actress, Melinda Clarke also expressed her opinion on the matter: “In the third season we were very aware of how much no one liked the scripts, especially the younger actors. Adam and Ben (Benjamin McKenzie) said, ‘We’re grown men, we still act like we’re in high school.’“.

Even the creator of The OC was not satisfied with the work that was being done on set: “By the time we got to season three, we were all exhausted. We had shot so many episodes so quickly, and frankly by that point everyone had pretty much figured me out. It was a great ride, but choppy“said Josh Schwartz.

Schwartz also revealed that to mask Adam Brody’s clear disinterest on set, who had become super lazy and uninterested, he intervened changing Seth’s character: “Brody had lost interest so much that his acting had changed so much that we felt the need to take that into account creatively. That’s where his character started smoking weed, to justify his lethargy on screen“, Schwartz revealed.
