Matthew Perry, Sean Penn remember it sadly: «It's tragic, but I can't say I'm surprised»

Among the numerous guest stars who have starred in Friendsthere was also Sean Penn. The actor, who participated in two episodes of the famous sitcom, recently spoke out about the tragic death of Matthew Perry, claiming to have praised him during their last meeting. In fact, during a conversation on the occasion of Piers Morgan Uncensored, he said: “I can’t say I knew him well, but I liked him a lot. I saw him recently, and we were both catching a flight out of LAX, and I complimented him on what I knew about his book“. Recall that Matthew Perry wrote a memoir, entitled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, in which he spoke openly about his battle with drug and alcohol addiction. Sean Penn then continued, admitting that he had not read the book but that he had read several interviews with Matthew Perry, in which the latter spoke about what he had to face: “He seemed to talk about it, address it and be very smart and bold about it. And he generously offered his expertise to people to help. It’s tragic, but I can’t say I was terribly surprised. I don’t know what the whole coroner reports and all that, but I know that over the years it had caused a lot of damage to his organs.”

The award-winning actor then praised Perry once again, stating: “He got to put that story behind him and give a lot of joy to a lot of people with his talent. So I wish his family all the best“. We also remember that Matthew Perry wanted to be remembered precisely for his desire to help people by also talking about his own addiction, not just for Friends. During an interview a year ago, he stated: “I would like to be remembered as someone who lived, who loved fully. And the key thing is that I want to be remembered as someone who wanted to help people. This is what I want. The best thing about me is that if someone comes to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking, can you help me?’ I can say ‘yes’ and I can really help him
