Actress Margot Robbie has explained that she doesn’t think Barbie 2 will be made, explaining the reasons why she excludes a sequel to the story.
The success of Barbie has quickly led to speculation that a sequel and the protagonist Margot Robbie has now addressed the question, giving an answer that may disappoint fans.
The actress, during an interview with the Associated Press, does not seem convinced that there could be a second chapter of the story.
The star’s statements
Margot Robbie has in fact ruled out the development of Barbie 2 by declaring: “I think we put everything into this. We didn’t build it with the possibility of making a trilogy or anything like that in mind“.
The star of the blockbuster film then reiterated: “Greta Gerwig put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what could be next“.

The importance of the film’s success
Margot also addressed the film’s success in terms of box office, noting: “I’d say the biggest lesson is that original films can still be huge box office successes. It doesn’t need to be a sequel, prequel or remake. It can be totally original. He can still get the big budget to do it“.
The interpreter of the Mattel doll in the live-action version therefore wanted to underline: “Just because there is a female protagonist doesn’t mean it won’t be successful in every way, which is a misconception that many people still have. So it’s really important that Barbie did well. Not only is this a great thing, it’s also really important because people in the future will be able to have ambitious original ideas and get the budget to do them right“.
