Five streaming films directed by Sam Raimi
- Ready to die
- Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness
The House (1981)
The myth of Sam Raimi begins with one of the most acclaimed horror films in the history of cinema, and rightly so. The wildest splatter and gore mix with an almost parodic taste for the genre, creating a disruptive effect. Home ends with a final sequence that is a riot of bloody joy, and Raimi’s style is immediately sedimented in the collective imagination. The protagonist is the friend and icon of the genre Bruce Campbell. Available on CHILI.
How to make a superhero film but in Raimi’s way. Darkman in fact it often leads to horror thanks to a delirious and magnificently paced staging. Liam Neeson he is a perfect very black and crazy anti-hero, Frances McDormand a “defenseless damsel” of substance. Amazing scenes, wild and desperate aesthetics, many cult moments. Perhaps still today Raimi’s best film. And we could remove the maybe…Available on Rakuten TV, Google Play, Apple Itunes, Amazon Prime Video.
The Quick and the Dead (1995)
We greatly underestimated it at the time, but today it is a cult title for us. Because behind the cheeky staging that constantly pays homage to Sergio Leone there is a truly effective story of redemption and revenge. Sharon Stone it works well, but if you have support Gene Hackman, Leonardo DiCaprio e Russell Crowehere the cast eats up the protagonist. Ready to die then it has the extraordinary cinematography of Dante Spinotti, very good at making this bizarre and Shakespearean western a mouth-watering film. Beautiful. Available on CHILI, Google Play, Amazon Prime Video.
One of the most successful films in the history of cinema is directed by Sam Raimi with an aesthetic freedom that today’s comic films only dream of. His Spider-Man in fact, especially in the first part, it seems to return to the independent glories of The House, with sweetly absurd editing and scenes. Tobey Maguire e Willem Dafoe they compete in the skyscrapers of New York with special effects. And the second chapter will be even better! History of mainstream cinema writ large. Available on CHILI, Google Play, Amazon Prime Video, NOW, Disney +.
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
The return to the Marvel universe, this time on the Disney side, confirms that Raimi always tries to put something bizarre and bizarre in his cinema. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness in fact it has some moments of pure and wild zombie-movie, with Benedict Cumberbatch who has a lot of fun playing them. The rest are gimmicks, surprises, cameos, previews of films to come. In short, the usual grandiloquent Marvel/Disney style which however the filmmaker tries to bend to his cinematic colour. He doesn’t always succeed, but at least the attempt is evident and therefore appreciable. Available on Rakuten TV, Google Play, Apple Itunes, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+.
