Joanna Robinson’s new book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, revealed the background on the end of the working relationship between Alonso and Marvel Studios.
Victoria Alonso’s dismissal from Marvel Studios after more than a decade of collaboration had left everyone dumbfounded and now Joanna Robinson’s new book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studiostried to shed some light.
In the book we read that, almost a year before its release, Alonso had “broke one of Feige’s fundamental rules” after speaking out publicly against former Disney CEO Bob Chapek:
“Alonso had broken one of Feige’s fundamental rules: do not speak publicly against the company“. Alonso, publicly lesbian, spoke out against Chapek in April 2022, after he did not speak out against Florida’s anti-LGBTQIA+ law “Don’t Say Gay”, which prevents discussing sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.
Between accusations of creating a toxic work environment, her public statements against Disney’s then-CEO, and her breach of contract to develop Argentina, 1985, it’s clear why the time had come for Alonso to leave. Marvel Studios after so many years.
Marvel: Victoria Alonso was ‘personally responsible for toxic work environment’
A new executive has not yet been named to replace Alonso, though Variety noted shortly after her exit that her broad role in post-production, visual effects and animation may require more than just one substitute.
