Talking with Vanity FairSofia Coppola commented on the results of Marie Antoinette, which grossed 60 million worldwide against a budget of 40 million, declaring: “I’m always happy to have the chance to make what I want to shoot. I was happy when we could make that movie, but nobody saw it“.
The director added: “And it was a flop. So the fact that she continued to have her own life and people talk about it was really satisfying because she required so much effort. It makes me happy that now he’s kind of found his way and people appreciate that“.
