Succession, The Last Of Us e The White Lotustitles available exclusively on Sky and streaming only on NOW, are among the most nominated series at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards 2023the highest award for the best of American TV, whose nominations have just been announced.
For Succession’s final season, heavy nominations for Best Drama Series and those for all of its leading actors (from Brian Cox to Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong and Sarah Snook), writing, directing and almost all of its extraordinary cast, do not protagonists (Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, J. Smith Cameron) and guests (Hiam Abbass, Cherry Jones and Harriet Walter) included. In the fourth season, the sale of media company Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård, also a candidate) causes anguish and family conflicts among the Roys who are confronted with the idea of a new lifestyle and a world in whose cultural and political weight is greatly reduced.
The Last of Us earned nominations for Best Drama Series and for lead actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey and guests (Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid and Anna Torv). The series, a celebrated television adaptation of the video game of the same name, tells a story of survival in a world devastated by a brutal pandemic by Cordyceps, a fungus that in fiction fiction transforms human beings into zombie-like infected.
The White Lotus continues to amaze and collects nominations again this year. The series gets important nominations including that for best drama series, that for writing and direction (to Mike White) and those for its brilliant cast which includes Sabrina Impacciatore, Simona Tabasco, Jennifer Coolidge, Megann Fahy, Aubrey Plaza, F. Murray Abraham, Theo James, Will Sharpe and Michael Imperioli. The HBO satire set in an exclusive resort – first in Hawaii, then in Taormina – is available on demand on Sky and streaming on NOW. The third season, arriving soon on Sky and NOW still exclusively for Italy, will have Thailand as the new headquarters of the imaginary luxury resort chain of the title.
House of the Dragon is also among the titles to contend for the title of best drama series. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series will soon return to Sky and NOW for its highly anticipated second season. Inspired by the novel “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin, co-creator and among the executive producers, it focuses on the so-called “Dance of the Dragons”, the civil conflict that broke out in the Seven Kingdoms between the two branches of House Targaryen, and their respective dragons , for the succession to the Iron Throne upon the death of King Viserys I. The first season is available on Sky and streaming on NOW.
