Margot Robbie held on to a bar to reproduce the famous arch of Barbie’s feet, this is how the opening scene of the film was made.
It trailer Barbie opens with an iconic scene: Margot Robbie she slips off her high-heeled slippers to reveal that hers bare feet are still arched and ready to slip into any subsequent shoe accessory. For anyone wondering: yes, those are indeed Margot Robbie’s feet.
As revealed in a cover story from Time magazine: “The scene took eight takes. Margot Robbie had to hold on to a bar to keep her feet flexed. And, yes, those are her feet. ‘I don’t like it when someone else does my hands or my feet,’ she explained the actress”.
Robbie also revealed to Time that he would have turned down Barbie if Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s script hadn’t incorporated many different Barbie characters. Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Dua Lipa and other actresses also play Barbie in the satirical film inspired by the Mattel doll:
“If Mattel hadn’t made that change to have multiple Barbies, I don’t think I would have accepted the film. I don’t believe the theory ‘This is the only version of what Barbie is and what women should aspire to be, look and behave.'”

Margot Robbie wanted Gal Gadot as Barbie
Margot Robbie, who is also a producer of Barbie, explained to Vogue last month that she “wooed” Gal Gadot to play a Barbie in the film as she feels the Wonder Woman star embodies Barbie’s energy:
“Gal Gadot has the energy of Barbie, she’s so incredibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being so beautiful because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so kind with such an enthusiasm that it’s almost silly, but it stops right before”.
Regarding the sensual nature of the doll despite its being a toy aimed primarily at children, the actress added:
‘Okay, she’s a plastic doll. She has no organs. If she has no organs, she has no reproductive organs. Having no reproductive organs, can she also experience sexual desire?’ No, I don’t think so. She’s sexualized. But she’s never supposed to be sexy. People can project sex onto her. Yes, she can wear a short skirt, but because it’s fun and pink. Not because she wants you to look at her butt.”.
The Italian release of Barbieone of the 15 most anticipated films in cinemas of summer 2023, is scheduled for July 20.
