The girl and the officer is the new Turkish series that Channel 5 buffalo in it this evening, June 9, in the early evening. Kurt Seyit ve Sura, this is the original title of the series, was broadcast in 2014 on Star TV, a private Turkish broadcaster. In the original version, the series consists of two seasons, the first consisting of thirteen episodes, the second of eight episodes.
The Girl and the Officer: Plot
During the Crimean War, Kurt Seyit is wounded and returns to St. Petersburg, where the revolution has broken out in the meantime. As a soldier in the Tsarist army, neither he nor Sura, his young wife, are safe in Bolshevik Russia, so – against the wishes of their respective families – the two flee by embarking on a perilous journey through frozen wastelands. The couple’s intention is to seek refuge in Istanbul, where the last days of the Ottoman Empire are being consumed… as is their love, at the mercy of family interference, society’s expectations and historical events.
True story
The Girl and the Officer is a true story. Turkish writer Nermin Bezmen, author of the books Kurt Seyt & Shura and Kurt Seyt & Murka, is the granddaughter of Kurt Seyit. Her grandmother, Murvet, told her story, which Bezmen then reconstructed by interviewing Shura’s sister and daughter. These events were later narrated in her novels.

Episode 01
First World War: Lieutenant Seyit Eminof, a charming and courageous young man, is one of the Tsar’s best officers. While on leave, he attends a dance organized by the parents of his friend Petro, a former army officer. At the ball he meets Alexandra Verjenskaya, called Sura, the youngest of Julien Veriensky’s three daughters. For the girl, it’s love at first sight. Even Seyit does not remain indifferent to the young girl’s charm, but, older and more shrewd, he pretends to ignore her. Shortly after Seyit leaves. Episode 02
Mirza explicitly tells Seyit that he wants him to marry a Turkish woman. The next day, the young man takes leave of his family and returns to Petrograd waiting to leave for the front and finds Sura again. Their love is subtly thwarted by Petro, who, in league with Baroness Lola, lets Sura know that she is nothing more than the object of a bet. Meanwhile Petro informs Seyit that the tsar will send him to fight in Galicia, a Ukrainian region where the Ottoman army is stationed to support the Austrian troops, therefore he could find himself, despite him, having to kill his own people
Episode 03
Seyit realizes that he feels true love towards Sura, but the latter feels betrayed when she sees him kissing Baroness Lola. Meanwhile, Celil asks Tatya to marry him, but she decides not to give him an answer right away and promises that she will only say yes when he returns from the war. Finally, it seems that the health of Sura and Valentina’s father has deteriorated and that he has little time left to live.
