A new indiscretion arrives on the sequel to Detective Pikachu: the Oscar-winning actor Will Smith is in the running to play the villain.

After the success of Detective Pikachureleased in 2019, at the box office, there was immediately talk of the hypothesis of a sequel. In the meantime, the screenwriter Oren Uziel has been replaced by Chris Galletta, while the director of the new chapter should be Jonathan Krise. According to a new rumor, Will Smith could be involved in the project as the villain.
The indiscretion comes from the Giant Freaking Robot portal. Apparently, the Oscar-winning actor would be the number one candidate to play the villain in Detective Pikachu 2, even if the possible role is not yet known. Many have thought of Giovanni, given Mewtwo’s involvement in the first film.

The feature film starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith grossed $54 million at the US box office in its first weekend in theaters. Detective Pikachu then went on to reach $340 million worldwide.
Director Rob Letterman explained: “The story is set in its new independent world, but is tied to other areas, so it ties into the rest of the Pokémon universe“.
The filmmaker also confirmed that an attempt was made to create connections with other animated films, in particular the first two shots were designed as a tribute to the feature film preferred by Letterman and his children.
