Did Fast X (re) ignite your desire for adrenaline? Great: here’s how to see (or review) the Fast & Furious saga in chronological plot order.

In the beginning I was there Star Wars. First the sequel trilogy, then the prequel trilogy and then the final trilogy. Three different story arcs, three story arcs developed in three different eras. After Star Warsthe turn has come The Lord of the Ringsas the trilogy de Lo Hobbit came out several years after the triumph de The Return of the King. Sagas, sagas and more sagas: here comes the franchise par excellence. Indeed, Marvel has developed the cinematic universe with multiple timelines, different but intrinsic to each other. The cinematic release, and the chronological narration of the facts and characters. But if we talk about franchises, we cannot fail to mention him most adrenaline-pumping movie show of all. Which? Obvious, Fast and Furious.
By the tenth chapter, Fast X (here the review), it’s time to structure a time frame that can best explain the chronological order of the story. Because since the first film, the epic of Fast and Furious it was based above all on the emotions of the moment. On emotions, and on receipts. If the first film directed by Rob Cohen was an unexpected success, the same cannot be said of the second chapter, that is 2 Fast 2 Furiousreleased in 2003. That film indeed suffered from the heavy absence of Vin Diesel. Still today evaluated as the worst chapter of the saga, the chapter directed by John Singleton has partly betrayed the initial spirit, even if it is essential in the productive development.
Why later 2 Fast 2 Furious the chapter that shorted production has arrived: Fast and Furious – Tokyo Driftpart prequel and part sequel. It’s time to Fast X has paved the way towards what promises to be the great finale, the time has come to take stock of the situation. In short, to tidy up. On the one hand the cinematic releases, which as we have told you have accompanied at least a couple of generations (here our insight), and on the other the events structured on the basis of the evolution of the story and the characters. So, in chronological order with respect to the plot. So an indication: if you are approaching the saga of F&Fwe advise you to review the films in the order that follows in the next blocks of the article (and which also includes the short films and the animated series Undercover pilots). At least you’ll understand why Sung Kang’s (Han Lue) apparent death, and you’ll understand why the Toretto gang has become one big family.
The F&F saga in chronological order
It starts easy. The saga of F&F part with the cult Fast and Furious. Legendary chapter, and the introduction of key characters: Dominic Toretto on the one hand, driving phenomenon and recidivist fugitive, and the policeman Brian O’Conner. The film also introduces Mia, Dom’s sister. At the center of the film is the investigation by O’Conner, on the trail of a gang of robbers acting on four wheels. And then? We continue with the short film The Turbo-Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furiouswhich picks up the story right after the ending of the first film.
Let’s find out why Brian moved to Florida, and find out where he found the legendary Nissan Skyline. The short is only featured on the DVD and Blu-ray releases of 2 Fast 2 Furious, which is the second film to watch in chronological order, and which had the merit of adding Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris to the cast. Then comes the turn of another short film, Banditswritten and directed by Vin Diesel, and found on the blu-ray release of Fast & Furious – Original parts onlywhich is precisely the third film to be seen following the chronological order, as well as the one that has rekindled the passion of the fans.
Fast X, the review: All roads lead to Rome
Da Fast 5 a Tokyo Drift
Even more fiery passion in Fast & Furious 5 e Fast & Furious 6the chapter to be seen in succession next Fast & Furious – Original parts only. Both directed by Justin Lin, they are marked by the spasmodic action and the (influential) arrival of Dwayne Johnsonas the one who gave Toretto’s family a hard time: Officer Luke Hobbs. Then the tank scene in Fast 6 is memorable. The saga has now cleared the shameless excesses, but before the last part (the more mature one) we need to take a step back: in chronological order we find The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift of 2006, and directed by Justin Lin. A fundamental film (and the most underrated), also and above all for the presence of Han, who died and resurrected (at the behest of the fans) countless times.
Fast X, the cast in Rome: “We are a splendid dysfunctional family”
Da Fast 7 a Fast X
Subsequently to Tokyo Driftthe chronological path of the saga of F&F it’s all downhill: we find Fast & Furious 7 by James Wan, marked by the passing of Paul Walker (we’re still mourning the finale) and the official premiere of Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. Soon after we find Fast & Furious 8 by F. Gary Gary. Perhaps the most mature chapter, which ends with the (symbolic) birth of Brian, son of Dom and Elena. After Fast 8 it’s the turn of the first (and so far only spin-off) of the franchise, Fast & Furious – Hobbs & Shawwhich enhances the entr’actes appreciated by fans between Statham and The Rock.
Following the order of the plot, we advise you to recover the Netflix animated series Fast & Furious – Undercover pilots, starring Tony Toretto, Dom’s teenage cousin. Six seasons set in different parts of the world (from the Sahara to the Pacific) and divided into fifty-two episodes. After that, we move towards the (momentary) conclusion: Fast & Furious 9 – The Fast Saga by Justin Lin, where the bad Charlize Theron is elevated to definitive villain (?), and indeed Fast X by Louis Leterrier, which anticipates the last two chapters under development. All clear? While we’re at it, we also leave you the summary chronological scheme:
