After the great success of Tearing Along the Edges – exactly one year later – Zero limestone announced through one of his boards the title of his second project with Netflix, This World Won’t Make Me Bad.
Plot and voice actors
The arrival of Cesare – who returns to the neighborhood after several years of absence – puts the protagonist in a deep crisis, who would like to help him feel at home again. The spectrum of broken friendships, abandoned old values and the frustration of not being able to make the right choice to find one’s place in the world will be the starting point that will lead Zero to reach a new awareness.
Second the official synopsis released by Netflix, “This world will not make me bad tells the difficulty of remaining oneself in the midst of life’s contradictions. The title itself, which draws inspiration from a song by a Roman singer-songwriter, represents a sort of mantra, a phrase that Zerocalcare himself repeats almost to convince oneself, in the most difficult moments, those in which the risk of making wrong choices and denying one’s ideals becomes stronger in order to get out of trouble”.
In continuity with the previous work, we will find some well-known characters voiced by the cartoonist himself: Zero and his friends Sarah, Secco and Cesare. Valerio Mastandrea will voice the Armadillo again.
Production and Curiosity
Written, directed and scripted by Zero limestonethe animated series is produced by Movimenti Production – a company of the Banijay group – in collaboration with BAO Publishing.
The Italian designer paints his narrative world and his unique language again, where his unmistakable characters continue to move, accompanied by the usual skilful mix of irony, pop references and even deeper themes, between the political and the generational.
During the preview at the Turin Book Fair, the author from Arezzo gave an interview, also talking about his commitment as an artist:
“Outside the community, there is only mythomania. This world won’t make me bad is a story that brings together many real people and many neighborhoods of Rome. It is difficult to remain authentic and not be corrupted internally in the midst of life’s difficulties and contradictions, this is why the value of the people around you counts”.
His day begins at 8.30:
“Six months out of the year I start work at 8.35am and go on until 4pm. At 4pm I go to the bathroom, eat something light and work until 8.30pm. When I’m working, I can go on until midnight. The other six months are of presentations: trains, drawings, meetings”.
As for the music of the animated series, the collaboration between Zero limestone e Giancane. The chosen songs – frank, irreverent, at times melancholy – will be available digitally and on double vinyl, with a cover designed by the author himself. The first LP will see the new album of the Roman singer-songwriter, All badcontaining the theme song of the show which gives the title to the second LP You are in a wonderful countrythe collection of songs chosen by the same Zero limestone.
