Yes it will Grease Rise of the Pink Ladies 2? The first season of the prequel of the iconic musical ended on Friday 2 June with the tenth episode. Will there be a second season? To date Paramount is not unbalanced on the future of the series, even if the first ten episodes do not seem to have succeeded in delivering the streaming service the success it needs to establish itself in the increasingly competitive scenario of platforms.
Between a less than enthusiastic reception from television critics and a lukewarm interest from fans of the original, this prequel to Grease – albeit with original music at times interesting – it seems to us a not entirely successful project that Paramount could decide to shelve. We look forward to learning more.

If it were to materialize, a possible second season will see the light not before summer 2024 as soon as possible. Production should get underway by the end of this year in order to make the months of filming needed to shoot the new episodes possible. Net of the times required by post-production, a possible continuation could land on Paramount + starting from the second half of next year, but a lot will also depend on the continuation of the American writers’ strike called by the WGA union.

The prequel series is set four years before the original Grease. In 1954, before rock ‘n’ roll was king, before the T-Birds were the most cool of the school, four jaded dropouts dare to have their own way of having fun, unleashing a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.
The TV series tells, through a process of narrative updating, contemporary problems and themes within the time frame of the early 1950s. If on the one hand this narrative device has allowed the creative men and women of the series to bring the story closer to the sensibilities of today, on the other hand this operation only gives the feeling of a story too full of themes and instances to be able to allow the viewer to suspend disbelief.

In the Season 1 finale, Olivia refuses to marry Mr. Daniels, Cynthia helps Nancy deal with her feelings for Potato, and Potato takes a surprising step to keep Nancy from being bored in their relationship. Buddy arranges for Richie to return to Rydell, though Buddy doesn’t get into the merits of Richie’s decision.
The first season also concludes with the entrance (from the back) of “Zuko”, a character that Gil introduces as “Frankie” from New York. It is highly probable that it is Danny’s older brother. With this cameo at the end of season 1 it is clear that the writers intend to suggest that the next season – if any – will introduce more connective tissue with the characters of Grease.

Not having received clearance from Paramount+, the production of the second season has not yet been confirmed. Therefore the trailer for the new episodes of Grease season 2 is not yet available on YouTube. We speculate that it will be about two months from the debut of the next season globally. If the second season will follow the production pattern of the first, we can expect another ten episodes of 50 minutes each. To know for sure we will have to wait for an official announcement from Paramount.

From Paramount Television studios, the series is written and executive produced by Annabel Oakes (Atypical, Minx), who also serves as showrunner and directed a subsequent episode. Alethea Jones (Made for Love, Dollface, Evil) directed the pilot episode and two other episodes and is an executive producer. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey executive produce for Temple Hill, while Adam Fishbach also executive produces.
