And dichiarato Rodriguez:
This story has fascinated us from the beginning. An adventure full of emotions that is based on two fundamental pillars: justice and freedom. Humiliated and reified men, without a future and without hope, many of them illiterate and without a job. They find a common goal that unites them: freedom. The idea for this film was born in 2006 when we discovered the story of COPEL (Committee Coordinator of Prisoners in Struggle). We’ve been doing fact and character research ever since, to be ready for this colossal story.
Here is the Italian trailer, the plot and the official poster of Prison 77:
Manuel is a young accountant sentenced to an exaggerated 20-year prison sentence for pocketing the equivalent of 1200 euros. With the help of his cellmate Pino, Manuel will become the leader of a movement that will unite all prisons in the fight for freedom, and that will change prison law and society forever. Inside, prisoners incarcerated for their sexual preferences, for being poor, for not having a job or for their political beliefs, deprived of rights and humanity, are serving excessive sentences in an overcrowded “Model Prison”. It’s 1977. Outside, in the overcrowded streets and squares, the recent democracy is celebrated after 40 years of dictatorship, unaware of a deeply flawed legal system.
