In the new The Little Mermaid, the crab Sebastian sings and recites with the voice of Mahmood, who told us at the press conference how his dream came true.
In the re-reading of The little Mermaid at Cinema, remake of the animated film of more than thirty years ago, Mahmood gives voice to Sebastian crabboth obviously in the sang (iconic “At the bottom of the sea” included), both in the played part. Last year’s winner of San Remo Festival he literally crowned his dream, because he loved The Little Mermaid since he was a child, as he told us at the press conference…
The Little Mermaid, Mahmood: “Cartoon shaped me”
The bond of has distant roots Mahmood con The little Mermaidand interpret the Sebastian crab comes perfectly natural to him: “The first conductor I’ve ever seen in my life!” With a Sardinian mother Mahmood, born Alexander Mahmoud, has grown accustomed to considering water a natural part of his life. “I immediately concentrated on the Little Mermaid, it is the cartoon that formed me.” And he worked hard to train everyone he knew: he tells us that his cousins, having learned that he was going to play Sebastian, started sending pictures of him taking them on the rocks to sing the songs from the film! Alessandro is grateful for the “beautiful climate” that was created in Rome during the dubbing: “I tried a totally new thing. I often reviewed the original myself, I kind of feel like Sebastian!” He also argued a double audition, for singing and for the spoken part. “I wanted give away what the cartoon had given me“, he tells us: so many emotions mixed in his heart. He wanted to give back what for him had been the highest point of Disney. “I lived everything with happiness and responsibility.”
The soundtrack also features a unreleased rap song“The big scoop“: a beautiful tongue twister sang with Alessia Amendola. “I went faster and faster. I admit that the new songs in these remakes sometimes annoy you: these songs for me instead added something extra. I almost never say that, I usually stick to the original versions.”
Mahmoodwhich considers the soundtrack of Hercules one of his favorites (also for the participation of Alex Baroni), compare this engagement with his regular occupation: “Singing live and singing with dubs are two very different jobs: the character already exists, on stage instead you have to start almost from scratch, excluding the exchange between you and the audience. For speech, the sentences came out when I brought my body to do what I wanted to say: it was almost like acting.” Acting… may Mahmood have a future as an actor? “I’m focused on music, but I don’t exclude anything, maybe an acting career could be viable.”
