Yes it will Citadel 2. Prime Video announced Thursday, May 26 that the global hit series Citadel will be renewed for a second season, with Joe Russo directing all episodes and executive producer David Weil again serving as showrunner. The spy thriller – Amazon says – continues to enjoy extraordinary success in all countries of the world, including India, Italy, Brazil, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. It is Prime Video’s second most-watched new original series outside the United States, and fourth-most watched worldwide. All episodes of the first season of Citadel will be available to Prime Video viewers on Friday, May 26.
When does Citadel 2 come out
Now that it’s official, let’s try to imagine when will season 2 of Citadel. On April 17 – about a month before Amazon formally announced the renewal for Citadel – the California Film Commission announced that production on season 2 would move from the UK to California to shoot the new episodes. The Amazon TV series has obtained an incentive equal to 25 million dollars in tax credit from the Golden State. The production of the second season of Citadel will bring about 120 million dollars to the Californian territory – according to estimates by the California Film Commission -, between investments for the cast, crew and suppliers. Filming will presumably begin by the end of the year, but much will depend on the continuation of the US screenwriters’ strike called by the WGA union.
Citadel 2 release date
The debut of the new episodes of Citadel 2, therefore, could take place between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. A series like this will hardly be able to return to the screens sooner. In fact, we must also take into account the long post-production phase that a series like this requires, in addition to filming and writing. To witness the return of Mason and Nadia we may have to wait no less than a year and a half. We look forward to hearing more from Amazon.

The second season of the TV series will continue to tell the story of Citadel, the independent international espionage agency born with the aim of defending the safety of all people, and its fight to counter the plots of Manticore, a powerful association that in he shadow manipulates the world and which led to the downfall of Citadel eight years earlier. At the end of the first season it turns out that it was Mason Kane (Richard Madden) who betrayed his colleagues and pretended to have lost all memories of his previous life. In Season 2, it remains to be seen what Nadia Sinh’s (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) next move will be now that she’s discovered that “Kyle” isn’t who she thought she was.

If the second season will follow the production pattern of the first, we can expect other six episodes of 50 minutes each. To know for sure we will have to wait for an official announcement from Prime Video. Joe Russo is directing all episodes of the second season, while David Weil (Hunters) is reconfirmed as showrunner. From Amazon Studios and AGBO by the Russo Brothers, Citadel is executive produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot and Scott Nemes for AGBO, with showrunner and executive producer David Weil. Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg are executive producers for Midnight Radio. Newton Thomas Sigel and Patrick Moran are also executive producers.

Looking forward to the second season of Citadel, all eyes are on the Italian chapter of the franchise. As revealed by the teaser at the end of the episode, the Italian spin-off TV series of Citadel starring Matilda De Angelis is titled citadel diana and debuts during 2024 on Amazon Prime Video.
