The Serie NBC Chicago Med say goodbye to another original cast member in the season 8 finale Gehlfuss follows that of Brian TeeDr. Ethan Choi who left the series this season after getting married to the love of his life, April Sexton (played by Yaya DaCosta). After 8 seasons, Nick Gehlfuss he last played Dr Will Halstead after being reunited with the woman he was meant to be with, the doctor Natalie Manning (played by Torrey DeVitto). Natalie and her son Owen are back for a happy ending of the two characters much loved by fans.
Why Nick Gehlfuss is leaving Chicago Med
In an interview with Deadline, Gehlfuss spoke about his decision to leave the series and the possibility of returning one day.

“By the season eight finale we’ve hit 163 episodes of Chicago Med. I’ve also done 21 episodes of Chicago Fire and 18 episodes of PD, which makes a total of 202 episodes of One Chicago.”
“This year would have been the last year of my second contract, so I would have to make a decision whether to start a new one or not. A few months ago I made that decision. It was important for me to let everyone know as early as possible in advance so the writers could plan the storyline and I could have time to make this transition away from all these eight-year relationships. It was a difficult decision, but I felt I had taken Dr Halstead as far as possible.”

The final episode is the last episode of Gehlfuss as a regular member of Chicago Med; she is one of the few cast members (along with Marlyne Barrett, Merkerson and Oliver Platt) who have been around since the beginning of the series. However, the door could still be open for her to return to the show, as demonstrated by another surprise in the final episode. After that Will leaves Chicagogets on a plane to Seattlewhere it is greeted by Natalie Manning (former series regular played by Torrey DeVitto) and his son, Owen. It was revealed in the previous episode that Nick e Natalie they kept in touch after his departure at the end of season 6, and now he has moved to Seattle to restart their “in presence” relationship.
How Chicago Med 8 ends
How it ends Chicago Med 8? After interfering in the operating room 2.0 to sabotage the performance of the Dayon Corporation and safeguard patients, demonstrating the lethal effects of the machine on people, Will takes note of his choices and delivers the letter of resignation to Sharon Goodwin. The woman warns Halstead that under the circumstances it will not be able to provide future recommendations for him.

“I feel like the fans never got what they wanted with Natalie and Will, and to be honest, Nick and I didn’t get the conclusion either we felt we deserved for our two characters. To be able to come back and give it not only to the viewers who love the show so much and really rooted for these characters, but also Nick and I, who really wanted this conclusion for our characters, was really beautiful.”
