As for the chaos on set that many have talked about, same Coppola he was keen to explain that these are unreliable rumors, which therefore have no reason not to be silenced. In short, the director denies more than minimizing, and who are we to say that he is lying?. We must remember, however, that he himself, some time ago, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about a difficult production.
Megalopolis: what chaos?!
In an interview with Deadline, Francis Ford Coppola would have said that the filming of Megalopolis were a lot of fun and it is not surprising that the production of the film has been compared to that of Apocalypse Now, another mammoth project of his. However, some distinctions must be made:
It took us months and months and months to assemble Apocalypse Now. And since the film was shot in the Philippines, it was shrouded in mystery. A little bit of the same thing happened with Megalopolis. Someone spreads a rumor, and in our case it was about chaos on set. But in reality the source didn’t even exist. As I see it, there were no delays, which is not an easy goal to achieve when you’re making an ambitious and complex film. I love my actors and I wouldn’t change a single one. The film has a much more unmistakable style than I thought. Honestly that’s what I think. For me the most important thing is the form the film will take when it is edited and can blossom.

In The Godfather Part 2 it was three weeks before a devastating preview, and Peggy Sue Got Married had a terrible preview, but then, two weeks later, it came together. The magic of a film can change, but I’m happy to be able to make a film that has become an obsession with me and that I feel will be wonderful, that will make us reflect on what the future might be like and will talk about how they are human beings. I couldn’t be happier.
