An actor is not always able to identify with the character he has to play. Indeed, more often than not the greatest challenge is precisely that of being able to give one’s face to seemingly impossible roles – or, in any case, extremely different from oneself. But there are cases in which the real difficulty is getting out of a character to which the actors themselves have felt close, characters that have become part of them over time, a second skin from which the general public is unable to separate them. For this reason, it sometimes happens that a celebrities refuse to return to the safe haven of the series that gave them success to enter the impervious paths of new challenges and characters. It happened to the stars of this list, who, who for economic reasons as in the case of Julianna Margulieswho to overcome past traumas like the star of iCarly Jennette McCurdy, they preferred to cut ties with a TV series that gave them success. Not an easy choice, if you consider the media hype that often – but not always – products like revival, reboot e spin-off of particularly famous shows. So let’s see which are the actors who have preferred to say goodbye to one of their characters, giving up appearing in the series spin-off from their previous TV series.
1)Julianna Margulies refused to return to The Good Fight

In this case we are talking about an important loss, I dare say fundamental. The leading actress of The Good Wife, Julianna Margulieshe categorically refused to play the role of Alicia Florrick in the series spin-off of the 2017 The Good Fight. Margulies, who had certainly contributed to the popularity of the mother series thanks to her excellent interpretation, obtained several important awards thanks to the show, among which a Golden Globe and two Emmy Awards. When the authors therefore offered her a guest star cachet to reappear in the spin-off, Julianna Margulies he flatly refused. Over the years there have been several attempts to produce The Good Fight to involve her, but the actress has always remained firm on her decision without the two parties being able to reach an economic agreement.
2) David Hyde Pierce said goodbye to Frasier

Frasier is one of those rare instances where it spin-off has managed not only to emulate, but even surpass the success of its parent series. Born from the hit series Cheers, the show aired from 1993 al 2004opening the doors of fame to many members of the cast: among them, the award-winning one stands out David Hyde Pierce who played the psychiatrist in the series Niles Crane brother of the protagonist. The actor took home several Emmy thanks to his character and many were therefore convinced to see him again in spin-off of 10 episodes of the production house Paramount+ which started shooting just this year. The actor Kelsey Grammerstar of the original and future series, told the magazine People that David Hyde Pierce no longer wishes to appear in the role of Dr. Crane, while all the rest of the cast has happily seized the opportunity to revive the franchise.
3) Phoebe Tonkin didn’t take part in Legacies

After the resounding success of the series The Originalsspin-off of The Vampire Diaries, it was almost impossible not to repeat the attempt to expand the narrative universe of the most famous vampires of the small screen again. It is therefore not surprising that a project such as Legacieswhich it is spin-off of The Originals, was not long in coming. What is striking, however, is certainly the actress’s refusal Phoebe Tonkin, interpreter of Hayley Marshall in the other two series, to participate in the project. The protagonist of Legacies in fact it is Hope Andrea Mikaelson (played by Danielle Rose Russell), daughter of Hayley herself: fans had therefore almost assumed that the actress would take part in the series in the role of her mother. However, the latter has stated that she does not want to return to the universe of The Vampire Diariesas she is convinced that her character has already been sufficiently explored in previous series.
4)Jennette McCurdy has said ‘no’ to the return of Sam Puckett in iCarly

The character of Sam Puckett in the famous series by license plate Nickelodeon iCarly it caused many inconveniences to its young interpreter, who, due to the unwanted fame and the toxic relationship with her mother, had to fight from an early age with important personal problems. To this day, McCurdy seems to have exorcised her past thanks to theautobiography “I’m glad my mom is dead“, recently also published in Italy. In the novel, the former Hollywood baby star also tells of how she categorically refused to participate in the serie spin-off Of ICarly of 2021, wanting to move away from acting forever and continuing his therapeutic journey. The attempts to convince her of her old cast mates (who, on the contrary, participated with joy) were of no avail: the girl is in fact determined not to take the show business again, at least for the moment.
5) Tiffani Thiessen did not participate in 90210

Tiffany Thiessen is famous for having participated in many extremely popular shows in between 1989 and the early years 2000, and his career shows no signs of stopping. So much so that in 2019 she refused to take part in the filming of 90210, spin–off of the famous Beverly Hills 90210: the actress was in fact busy on the set of the third season of the Netflix series Alexa and Katie, now concluded, of which she was the protagonist. The actress confirmed that it would have been impossible for her to organize both commitments, as both series were filmed at the same time: she therefore preferred to devote herself entirely to more current projects. It was therefore not possible for us to see her again, not even in a cameo, in the role of the wicked and charming Valeria Malone.
6)Dylan O’ Brien non compare nel film Teen Wolf: The Movie

Teen Wolf won the hearts of many spectators, earning an enviable number of fans over the course of 6 seasons. Popular, captivating and with a decidedly appreciable cast, the series has also remained in the hearts of many cast members. In particular, Dylan O’Brien, who in the series plays Mieczysław “Stiles” Stilinski, best friend of the protagonist Scott McCall, has remained very close to the series. For this many fans were extremely disappointed when the actor publicly refused not wanting to participate in the feature film based on the series, Teen Wolf: The movieproduced by the platform Paramount +. The actor said he deeply loved the series and his character, but did not want to play him again or delve into his story. A real blow to the heart for the fans, above all for not having been able to see the couple formed by Stiles and Lydia (played by the actress Holland Rode) on the screen.
7) Melissa McBride non ci sarà in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

The Carol Peletier of The Walking Dead she should have appeared alongside her colleague Norman Reedus in spin-off centered around the character of Daryl Dixon and set in France. The European location would be the reason why the actress refused to return to her character, despite the initial intentions of the production were to make her co-protagonist of the series. The news has created quite a bit of discontent among the fans of the show, who awaited the reunification of the actor couple with trepidation; however Norman Reedus, during an episode of Tonight Show in which he was a guest of the conductor Jimmy Fallonasserted how much the colleague deserved a break from the series of The Walking Dead.
