After appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the fate of the character is uncertain but there are several reasons that justify his return.

Scarlet Witch is the pseudonym of one of the most important comic characters of La Casa delle Idee, namely Wanda Maximoff, sister of the sprinter Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver), an enchantress with incredible magical powers. Born first as an opponent of the X-Men, she later becomes a powerful ally of the Avengers. A destiny that, within the Marvel Cinematic Universeis somewhat different: after his cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier along with his twin (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), throws a spanner in the works of the Avengers in Avengers: Age of Ultron, except then move on to the parts of the good. A superheroine who loses her compass at the death of her beloved Vision of her (Paul Bettany) in Avengers: Infinity War, rebuilding in the series WandaVision an illusory life with him that slowly leads her to the dark side. An evil that reaches its climax in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesscon Scarlet (Elizabeth Olsen) who is the film’s antagonist, only to be defeated by her own hands. Despite her departure, will it be possible to see Wanda again in the MCU? Although there is no certainty, the clues are not lacking.
A suspicious death
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessScarlet Witch, thanks to her incredible magical reality rewriting abilities (enhanced after contact with the Darkhold), becomes practically invincible and in fact, it is not our heroes who defeat her, but she herself. Once she learns, in another universe, that she has become a monster, a witch in the eyes of her children, the enchantress decides to collapse Mount Wundagore, where the power of the Darkhold derives from, ending up under the rubble and apparently dying on the spot. An end that is questioned above all by the fact that we don’t see her body, but we watch the whole scene from a safe distance. Also, Elizabeth Olsen (Love & Death, Wind River Secrets) has always been rather dubious about her future in the MCU, as if Marvel is still deciding what to do with Scarlet Witch’s death not being taken for granted.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the review: the new prestige of the sorcerer Sam Raimi
The maximum potential of the character
Within WandaVision we realize that, in the previous films, the sorceress has not at all fully expressed her potential and the first sign of her newfound magical powers can be observed precisely with the construction of Westview, a real city shaped according to her internal from the sick and destroyed mind of Wanda herself, capable of generating people with the sole power of thought and rewriting reality. Subsequently, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we see the next step of his transformation, a destructive phase in which he is able to raze Kamar-Taj, stand up to all sorcerers and even eliminate the group of Illuminati with ease. In Sam Raimi’s feature film, however, we have seen her devastating power aimed at evil, but in her final Scarlet realizes the damage caused by her, assuming her return to the ranks of good. At such a peak of narrative evolution, it would be truly a shame not to see the character fight again together with the Avengers, but using her magical abilities to the full (but without the Darkhold).
The bond with Magneto or the High Evolutionary?
The origins of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, differ from the comics: the twins were born in 1989 in Sokovia and, at the age of 10, lost their parents. In 2014, the couple volunteered for a Hydra experiment, coordinated by Barons von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann), which allows the two to develop powers. In the comics Wanda has had several origin story: initially she was presented as the daughter of the mutant Magneto, from whom she inherits her psychic abilities, but subsequently the House of Ideas rewrote her story, saying that it was the High Evolutionary to take care of her and her brother, manipulating their abilities. The curious aspect is that both villain mentioned above are part of the MCU but if The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) met a bad end in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the Magneto hypothesis continues to persist and could be proposed. Currently 20th Century Studios is in the hands of Disney and soon the X-Men and mutants will be canonical in the MCU. One more reason not to forget Scarlet.
WandaVision, the meaning of the ending: end of broadcasts, or maybe not
The spin-off of WandaVision
Another very important detail that suggests the return of the character we learned from some recent statements by Elizabeth Olsen herself, who, when asked if she would return in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, thus piqued the interest of the fans: “I think I’ll be back”. Currently we still have little information on the spin-off serial of WandaVision which will see the witch as the protagonist Agatha Harkness (with the face of Kathryn Hahn) and the only certainty seems to be a large part of the cast, from some Westview residents already seen in Wandavision, to Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), a Sicilian witch from the Harkness coven. While it is still unknown timeline of the showif indeed it will be set in the past (better showing the origins of the villain) or in the present, Wanda’s presence isn’t so illogical, even if it makes you think more of a cameo than to a greater role. Probably the most suitable scenario for this purpose is that of the present, with a Scarlet girl who is learning to control her powers.
And if the farewell to Wanda was a concrete possibility?
Let’s not forget, however, that Marvel is currently in a moment of continuous experimentation and, from Avengers: Endgame onwards, all the heroes we have come to know in the first Three Phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are abandoning the crew, making room for new personages. Whereas Wanda’s first full appearance dates back to Avengers: Age of Ultron, penultimate film of Phase 2, it is not so obvious that the superheroine may have a future in the next projects of Kevin Feige’s cinematic and serial plan. It is equally true, among other things, that in the course of her life on the big and small screen, Scarlet has been thoroughly analyzed, although we have only seen her at full power in WandaVision e Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Considering these elements, perhaps we must really prepare ourselves for a farewell from Elizabeth Olsen also because there has never been a certain indication of her return within the MCU on her part.
