The first series of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Samuel L. Jackson again as Nick Fury, will stream on Disney+ on June 21st.
Nick Fury is back from outer space and determined to fight an unprecedented battle alone. Disney+ has released an interesting new featurette of Secret Invasionthe first series Marvel which will inaugurate the Phase 5 of the MCU and will debut in streaming the June 21st, just in time for the first day of summer. In the clip, which you see below, the protagonists take the floor – and not only Samuel L. Jackson but also Cobie Smulders, Olivia Colman e Emilia Clarke – and let us get into the mood of the series: a old school thriller somewhat reminiscent of the old Hollywood spy movies of the 70s and 80s.
The plot of Secret Invasion
Created by Kyle Bradstreet, Secret Invasion it has 6 episodes and is set in the current MCU (so most likely five years later Avengers: Endgame, in 2025). We therefore find Nick Fury; when the latter learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls, he joins his allies, including Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) e lo Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who built a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an impending Skrull invasion who, by infiltrating, have quietly replaced some of the most powerful and influential leaders on Earth. In the featurette we see that they move in a stealthy way, wanting to believe that different terrorist attacks that hit four corners of the globe are all of different origins.
“Nick comes back, having lost all the power he had before, so let’s try to work things out without being too superhuman,” Jackson says in this clip that allows us a behind-the-scenes peek at the miniseries. Similarly, we see aOlivia Colman absolutely thrilled to finally be joining the MCU. “After every Marvel film, I would ask my agent, ‘Please, can I participate in anything from the Marvel world?'” confesses the actress of The Crown.
The cast and the characters
Colman plays Special Agent Sonya Falsworth while the villain of the situation, Gravik (who we see together with several of his clones), is played by Kingsley Ben-Adir. They complete the cast Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie FinneranEmilia Clarke as Talos’ daughter G’iah, e Don Cheadle who returns to the role of James Rhodes, the former War Machine.
