In recent years, the TV series industry produced a wide range of options for viewers, from crime genre to science fiction, through drama and comedy. However, one of the genres that has seen a significant reduction in the number of new quality productions is romance. In the cauldron of recent releases, the Netflix TV series stands out A Girl and an Astronaut.
It is in fact a story beyond time and space which, through a narration on several temporal levels and an excellent characterization of the characters, manages to involve us in a story that literally makes the heart beat.
Here are 7 reasons why you should watch A Girl and an Astronaut
1) A Girl and an Astronaut – An original love story

Lately, on the various platforms, there is a lack of engaging and well-written love stories. Although the recent release of the Bridgerton spin-off signed Shonda Rimes has place temporary remedy, the hours and hours of looking for something valid on streaming platforms turn out to be almost in vain. When I found myself in front of this series, attracted by the poster and the trailer, I started it quite skeptical, convinced that I wouldn’t go beyond the second episode, and in the end I ended up changing my mind.
A Girl and an Astronaut was a pleasant discovery and within a few days I literally devoured it. The story of the love triangle between Marta, Niko and Bogdan, surrounded by events, come on dreams and conspiracies related to the sci-fi world have literally transported me. An original love story, pleasantly told through the memories of the protagonists, and albeit with a few too many clichés, romantic and engaging.
2) The cast and characters

The Polish cast, totally unknown to my eyes as a spectator, impressed me a lot. I found that all the characters, with more attention to the protagonists, they juggled perfectly in the role of the young people involved in the story. Niko, played by a charming Jedrzej Hycnar, plays the role of the tormented bad boy, but who, contrary to the stereotype, immediately shows his true nature, chasing and reaching the dream of exploring space.
Jakub Sasak, as Bogdan, also proves a match for his colleagues. Perhaps helped by a more classic characterization, he often manages to bring us to his side, involving all those who have chased after at least once in their life an unrequited love fully. Finally, Marta, played first by the young Vanessa Aleksander and then by the adult version by Magdalena Cielecka receives from both the best in terms of acting.
3) A new interpretation key

As I anticipated this seriesand it works thanks to its script. We have now seen many series on space, that mysterious place has been interpreted and explored far and wide through the cinematography and seriality of the various most famous streaming platforms.
However, A Girl and an Astronaut has managed to give us back a new key and exciting. The space is indeed developed, but only as a side dish, letting the love story between the three boys occupy all the necessary space. In the end however, no plot hole is overlooked, because the time for answers is ensured in the right time.
4) The settings

I have read many conflicting opinions regarding the settings of this TV series, however, to be a series basso budget I found them really worthy.
Leaving aside the scenes in the past, sometimes without particularities but equally very beautiful, the scenes in the future, untangled between the futuristic house of the protagonist, the science fiction city and the laboratory / base where Niko is held prisoner they are really well represented and make in all respects the idea of evolution hoped for.
5) Finally a love story

What makes A Girl and an Astronaut an original love story is its ability to mix science fiction and romance elements, creating an engaging and unique narrative that is truly one of a kind. The series manages to make the audience feel the enormous physical distance that separates the two protagonists, but at the same time to bring out the desire for union and mutual understanding that binds them.
The deep feeling of melancholy and unease felt by the protagonists during the evolution of the episodes makes the ending even more appreciated (here you can find other romantic TV series suggestions).
6) The photography of A Girl and an Astronaut

The photography of the Netflix series is not to be underestimatedand, perhaps one of its most distinctive and appreciable elements. The series was shot with great attention to the composition of the images, the light and the use of color, which helped to create an emotional and engaging atmosphere that perfectly accompanies the love story between Marta and Niko (think of the night scenes, among the lights of the rides).
Filming was done in different locations, both indoors and outdoors, and each one was chosen carefully to create the desired effect. The scenes that take place in space are simple but effective, with a representation of spaceships and space landscapes that manage to convey a feeling of wonder.
7) A reflection on time and aspirations

To conclude, there is one last aspect of this Netflix series that should prompt you to watch it. In particular, the plot pushes us to focus not only on the importance of time but also about dreams and aspirations. Niko’s perseverance leads him to realize his dream (with all the consequences of the case), while Marta does not reach him, probably also because she is not so motivated (she wanted to be a DJ).
Time and space, when you really want something can’t lead to an obstacle, if you really want something you just have to work hard to achieve it.
