Jane Fonda has revealed that the best memory from filming Book Club – The Next Chapter was the exclusive night visit to the Sistine Chapel.

From a wonderful Venice boat ride to a helicopter landing in Tuscany, Jane Fonda had a real adventure in Italy with Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen and Candice Bergen on the set of Book Club – The Next Chapter. But, predictably, it was there Sistine Chapel to win the heart of the Hollywood star.
Your favorite memory of the Bel Paese? “When we went to see the Sistine Chapel at night, and there was no one else with usFonda told Variety during the New York premiere on Monday night.I remember the whole ceiling being explained to us by a very good guide. It was a real pleasure.”
Even though the sequel was filmed nearly five years after the original, the actress said she’s in constant contact with her co-stars: “We’ve seen each other often since we made the first film. We go to each other’s houses for dinner, we write to each other, we send a lot of emails, we make calls on Zoom all together. It’s not like we’ve been separated for years and then suddenly reunited, we’ve always been in touch.”
During the premiere Bill Holderman, the director of Book Club – The Next Chapter, spoke about the genesis of the new film: “The idea for Italy was born before the first film even came out, I remember Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen, Jane Fonda and Erin Simms being on a plane and saying: ‘We have to do a sequel. And you know what would be fun? Let’s go to Italy’. So that was the fundamental element that gave birth to the project.”
