Poor Things – The teaser trailer for the new effort by Yorgos Lanthimos
based onnovel of the same name by Alasdair GrayPoor Things tells of the incredible adventure of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), died to escape her abusive husband and brought back to life by her fatheril Dottor Golwdin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), a brilliant and unorthodox scientist – in the starting work Bella comes back to life thanks to the brain of the child she was carrying. Eager to learn and hungry for worldliness, Bella runs away with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a stylish and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across continents. Breezy, moody and absolutely free from the prejudices of her time, Bella decides to fight to defend equality and freedom. The film, for the topics covered, was classified as Rated R – or forbidden to unaccompanied minors under 17 – for “strong and pervasive sexual content, nudity, disturbing material, gore and explicit language”.
The short clip distributed by Searchlight therefore shows the moment in which Bella Baxter comes back to life and some sequences set in a colorful and dystopian world, distant from the atmospheres painted by Yorgos Lanthimos in his previous filmography. Away from the scene for five years, the director then returned to collaborate with Emma Stone – direct ne The favourite – and with Tony McNamara – already author of the 2018 film. Alongside the actress, moves – as mentioned – an all-star cast, made up of Willem DafoeRamy Youssef, Mark RuffaloJerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley and Kathryn Hunter. Lanthimos is also already working on his next project, ANDin which we will find Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe e Margaret Qualleythis time joined by Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau – fresh off his first Oscar nomination for The Whale -, Mamoudou Athie ed Hunter Schafer – young star launched by the series Euphoriaalso in the cast of The Ballad of the Nightingale and the Serpentthe prequel to the saga Hunger Games.
