No more tropical island getaways for FOX: the network decided not to renew Fantasy Island for a third season.
FOX had greenlighted the contemporary take on the classic drama series in 2021. The show, which takes place in a luxury resort, starred Roselyn Sanchez as Elena Roarke, a descendant of the enigmatic Mr. Roarke from the original series.
“We were delighted with the fun and escapist creativity of Fantasy Island, which we hoped would gain strong acceptance among viewers”the network said. “Sony Pictures Television is an important partner of ours and we look forward to continuing to work with them on Accused, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, Doc and the upcoming Universal animated series Basic Guys/Hoagie Bros. We would also like to thank the cast of Fantasy Island, led by Roselyn Sánchez, Kiara Barnes and John Gabriel Rodriquez, crew and executive producers Liz Craft, Sarah Fain and Anne Clements for their collaboration on the TV series”.
The original Fantasy Island debuted in 1977 and it was seeing Ricardo Montalban as Mr. Roarke e Herve Villechaize as his Tattoo assistant.
There was also another 1998 reboot, with Malcolm McDowell as Mr. Roarke.
