Less than two weeks after the debut, Netflix has announced the renewal for a second season of The Diplomat.
After the success of The Night Agent, the streaming giant orders a new batch of episodes of the politically oriented TV series by Deborah Cahn (Homeland). The cliffhanger that closed the first season will thus be resolved soon.
The show immediately jumped to number 1 in the global top 10, amassing 57.48 million viewing hours in its debut week, April 20-23.
American writer and producer Cahn enthusiastically commented on the news:
“We had so much fun making The Diplomat, and it’s exciting to see how many people are enjoying it. We are so excited to be doing it again!”.
The leading actress Keri Russell he added:
“I’m thrilled to be back for another round of this smart nutcase show. Dare I say it’s hilarious? Thanks Netflix for giving us another chance.”“.
The eight episodes of the first chapter focus on the events of Kate Wyler (Russelllisten)) United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Well skilled in crisis zones – as war escalates in one continent and flares in another – Kate must resolve international crises, forge strategic alliances in London and adjust to her new prominent position, all while trying to survive her marriage to her colleague diplomat and political figure Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell). In the midst of an international crisis, the task that has been assigned to her seems immediately beyond her possibilities and her work has repercussions on his marriage and his future political career.
The cast of the series also includes David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear e Ato Essandoh.
