Arnold Schwarzenegger is back like we’ve never seen before with FUBAR, the TV series that marks the small screen debut of the action movie icon. Whether you’re a fan or not, you probably know the pro bodybuilder-turned-actor and former governor of California all too well. The resume of Schwarzenegger speaks for itself: we have in fact seen him as the protagonist of classics such as Commando, Predator, True Lies and, of course, in the beloved franchise of Terminatorsince 1984.
Having achieved strong box office results and earned a well-deserved reputation as an international film star, the actor has now set his sights on a new frontier: the world of streaming television. Though it may be hard to believe, Schwarzenegger she’s never had a leading role on the small screen in her entire fifty-year career – until now.
The meaning of FUBAR
FUBAR is definitely one of the most anticipated new action projects of the year, but what does it mean? Let’s start by saying that it is an abbreviation of “Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition”.
The slang of WWII soldiers was as colorful as it was evocative. It could be hurtful, pessimistic, witty, and even defeatist. From “Spam Bashers” e “Passion Wagons”a “Roof Pigs” e “Hell’s Ladies”servicemen were never at a loss for words to describe the people and events in their lives. “Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition” takes a frank look at the British, Commonwealth, American, German, Japanese and Russian slang used by men in the field and it shows how, even in the heat of battle, they somehow managed to keep their sense of humorhowever black it might be.
Plot
Second the official synopsis released by the platform, “A father and daughter have been working as CIA agents for years, but each has kept their involvement in the agency a secret from the other, with the result that their entire relationship has been one giant lie. Upon learning of each other’s involvement in the CIA, the two are forced to work together as partners and, against the backdrop of explosive action and espionage, discover who they really are.”.
Based on this description alone FUBAR seems to remember True Liesin which Schwarzenegger he played a character who leads a double life: for his wife Helen and daughter Dana he is a boring computer salesman often on business trips, while in reality he is a secret agent of Omega Sector, a top US counterterrorism agency secret.
All in all the set-up of the TV series looks quite similarbut the twist comes when it turns out that Luke Brunner’s daughter (played by Monica Barbaro) is a spy, a job he has kept secret from his family.
Cast and characters
Beyond Schwarzeneggerthe cast consists of Monica Barbaro, Jay Baruchel, Fortune Feimster, Milan Carter, Travis Van Winkle, Gabriel Luna, Andy Buckley, Aparna Brielle, Barbara Eve Harris, Scott Thompson, Rachel Lynch, David Chinchilla e Fabiana Udenio.
- Baruchel will be Carter, kindergarten teacher and Emma’s sweet boyfriend (Barbaro), who has been led to believe that his beloved works for a non-profit organization that provides clean water to people in need around the world. Their bond will be put to the test when the man discovers the secrets that have always been kept from him;
- Brielle (AP Bio) will play Tina, an NSA analyst on loan to the CIA, who, despite her young age, is very good at her job;
Capable and intelligent, she will find herself a little intimidated by her new colleagues; - Indebtedness will play Tally, Luke’s ex-wife (Schwarzenegger) and Emma’s mother. Unaware of the double life of her two, she has always been suspicious of her husband’s frequent “business trips”, which inevitably created distance in their relationship. Though she has a new man in her life, the chemistry with her ex is still palpable;
- Carter will play Barry, a lovable and proud nerd, who has worked closely with Luke in the CIA for the past 20 years. Polite and brilliant, he keeps his partner and the whole team safe by staying away from the action;
- Buckley (The Office) will play Donnie, Tally’s easy-going current boyfriend.
Always caring and positive, the man will change his attitude when he realizes that Luke is trying to win back his ex-wife; - Feimster (The Mindy Project) will play Roo, short for Ruth, an intelligent and sarcastic CIA officer who sees Luke as a father figure;
- Harris will play Dot, intelligent, authoritarian and intimidating regional director of the CIA;
- Luna (Agents of SHIELD) will play Boro, a charismatic businessman and Oxford graduate who has chosen to use his skills in the illegal arms trade;
- Winkle (The Last Ship) will play Aldon, an excellent CIA officer.
A know-it-all like no other, deep inside he hides a gentle and sweet soul; - Bostick (The 100) will play Oscar, the son of Luke and Tally, an aspiring app developer, who has never lived up to his father’s expectations;
- Chinchilla will be Cain Khan, Boro’s intimidating lieutenant, also implicated in the illegal arms trade;
- Lynch will play Romi, Oscar and Sandy’s sweet 6-year-old girl, who will be played by Stephanie Sy;
- Thompson will play Dr. Louis Pfeffer, a psychologist operating at the CIA, in charge of the joint therapy sessions of Luke and Emma.

Episodes and release date
FUBAR will consist of 8 episodes – whose titles have not yet been announced – that they will debut on Netflix on May 25th.
What to expect from the TV series? “Everywhere I go, people ask me when I’m going to do another great action comedy like True Lies. Well, here it is”he has declared Schwarzenegger. “FUBAR will kick your ass and make you laugh – and not just for two hours. You’ll have a whole season”.
