6 MCU Movies That Could Be Affected By The WGA Strike
Thunderbolts (July 2024)
The upcoming MCU movie Thunderboltswhich centers on misfit heroes and former Marvel villains, is scheduled to begin filming in June, but even if the script is finished by that point, the ongoing WGA strike could hamper production.
Blade (September 2024)
The reboot of Blade starring Mahershala Ali has already suffered multiple production delays since it was announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2019. With filming set to begin in late May, a strike would either result in a further delay or force the film to begin shooting without a writer active. Given that the film already has a release date, it’s quite likely that the latter route will be pursued. Just a few days ago it was announced the arrival of the creator of True Detective Nic Pizzolatto to rewrite the reboot script.
Deadpool 3 (novembre 2024)
Filming of Deadpool 3 are imminent, but the WGA’s order is clear: do not cross the pickets. Fans of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman can already begin to despair if something doesn’t change at the last minute.
Fantastic Four (February 2025)
Waiting for the announced reboot of the Fantastic Four may be longer than expected. A strike would affect the film’s shooting schedule, though shooting won’t begin until early 2024. The scriptwriting process takes time, and Marvel Studios wants the reboot to be as good as it can be before production begins. If no one is allowed to develop the script further, the film’s release date may be pushed back.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (maggio 2025)
The fifth film in the Avengers series, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, would likely suffer the same fate as the Fantastic Four in the event of a strike, but it’s possible it’s far enough away that the script won’t suffer any damage. Filming of Avengers 5 they will begin in spring 2024, assuming everything stays on schedule.
Avengers: Secret Wars (maggio 2026)
Avengers: Secret Wars it’s currently not expected to release until 2026 and could be delayed regardless of a strike, but it’s still possible that a potential work stoppage by the writers could end up playing a part in that delay.
