Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer was one of the most popular (but rather controversial) projects that arrived on our screens during 2022, and Netflix could not help but renew the docuseries for two more chapters.
After the renewal, information on the second season has been rather meager, but things have changed in the past few hours: the streaming giant has in fact confirmed that the new episodes will focus on Erik and Lyle Menéndez. The news comes together with the title of the next chapter: Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menéndez.
While the first season focused on the multiple crimes committed by Jeffrey Dahmer, the Menéndez brothers are instead known for the tragic killing of their parents in 1989with the trial then broadcast on Court TV in the 1990s.
On August 20, 1989, José and Mary Menéndez were killed in their Beverly Hills home, with their children calling 911 to report that someone had killed their parents. In the months following the murder, the two brothers lived a relatively comfortable lifestyle thanks to their parents’ inheritance, which partly contributed to the authorities believing that their children were the only ones with a motive. Erik allegedly confessed to his crimes to his psychologist in 1990, leading to their arrests.
The Menéndez brothers’ trial revealed that the couple had suffered physical, emotional and sexual abuse from their parents over the years, leading up to the night of their murder, in which the brothers said they feared for their lives. The initial trial resulted in a deadlocked jury, with their retrial less publicized than their first (and not televised). The brothers were sentenced to life in prison — without the possibility of parole — in 1996.
The release date of Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menéndez has not yet been announced.
