Mare Fuori, the first two seasons removed from RaiPlay
Sea out is undoubtedly the most successful series for RaiPlay. Last February, the public service streaming platform made the third season available – dividing it into two parts – before its broadcast on Rai 2, recording record numbers: in the month of February alone, the title exceeded the figure of 105 million of views on RaiPlay, with over 45 million hours of online use recorded. A boom undoubtedly fueled by the landing, which took place last June, of the first two seasons of the series on Netflix Italy.
And it is precisely the first two seasons of Sea Out that we go back to talking, because – starting from Tuesday 25 April – they are no longer available in the RaiPlay catalogue. Currently the video on demand platform hosts only the third season, while the first twenty-four episodes are currently available only on Netflix. What is the reason for all this?
These are the so-called windows for the use of audiovisual works, i.e. the defined time periods – established in the contract stipulation – for which the reproduction rights of a film or a TV series can be sold separately, at prices agreed during the negotiation phase between the holder of the aforementioned rights (who produces the title, which in the case of MF are Rai Fiction and Picomedia) and whoever wishes to broadcast or host the title on their own channel and platform.

Even last year Sea Out it had “disappeared” from RaiPlay, only to then reappear in the catalog in view of the debut of the third season to allow fans to recover the previous episodes. In short, there is nothing to worry about: these are only commercial agreements that allow a series or seasons of a series – in this case the first two of Sea Out – to be distributed by a given platform – in this case RaiPlay – for a given period of time.
In the meantime, the fiction has returned in repeat from the first episode on Rai Premium, while the DVD box set of the third season arrives in stores in May. For those who are waiting for the arrival of season 3 of Sea Out on Netflix Italy, we talk about September.
