While the first seminal Star Wars was born, Al Pacino was unstoppable: tre nomination all’Oscar in a row, for The Godfather, Serpico e The Godfather – Part II: Al was the actor of the moment, the star that everyone was trying to have. He also tried George Lucaswho sent him the Star Wars script. Beh, I turned down Star Wars. When I started, I was the new one in this world, you know how it goes when you become famous: “Give the part to Al”. They would have made me interpret it as well Queen Elizabeth. They handed me a script called “Star Wars”, they offered me a lot of money. I didn’t understand it. I read it… I said I couldn’t do it. I gave Harrison Ford a career.
