One a longtime Morettian, the other in her first experience on a set of the director, are the protagonists of the film within the film, the one set in 1956, but they are also the mirror, in some way, of the characters played by Moretti and Buy. In The sun of the future there is a movie within a movie. The film directed by Giovanni, starring Nanni Moretti and produced by his wife Paola (Margherita Buy), the story of the secretary of the PCI section of the Roman district of Quarticciolo who in 1956, after having invited a Hungarian circus to Rome, found himself having to deal with the consequences of the sending of tanks to Budapest by the Soviet Union. With him, close to him, a member of the party, an enthusiastic seamstress, who will push him to do and think what is right. In the role of these two characters, who are somehow the “cinematographic” alter egos of Giovanni and Paola, there are Silvio Orlando e Barbora Bobulova. The first with a long experience in Moretti’s field behind him (the two worked together five times, the first in Palombella rossa), the second in his first set with Nanni.

Il sol dell’avvenire, the fourteenth fiction film by Nanni Moretti is in Italian cinemas from 20 April with 01 Distribution, and will be presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 which will be held from 16 to 27 May.
