We spoke to the author of the film and its leading actress, who have arrived here in this fourteenth feature film directed by Moretti, their fifth consecutive collaboration. Here is our video interview with Nanni Moretti and Margherita Buy on Il sol dell’avvenire, in cinemas from 20 April.
Con The sun of the future it is the fifth time that Nanni Moretti choose Margherita Buy as an actress in her own film. “The fifth in a row”, Moretti is keen to explain. During the press conference to present the film, Buy, she said she was “happy to have participated in this complex film. With Nanni we were first married, then brothers, then a separated couple: who knows what we’ll do next”. From The sun of the future says the actress that it was “a film in which I really enjoyed myself in many moments during production”.
We interviewed Nanni Moretti on video e Margherita Buy after that press conference, and we talked with them about the search for freedom felt in the film (a freedom sought above all by the female characters), about the many morettisms and their meaning, about the link between this film and the previous one, very different Three floors, and more. Il sol dell’avvenire, the fourteenth fiction film by Nanni Moretti is in Italian cinemas from 20 April with 01 Distribution, and will be presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 which will be held from 16 to 27 May.
