Dr. Shaun Murphy will continue to excite us, between complicated medical cases and exciting sentimental events. ABC has renewed The Good Doctor for a seventh season. The news comes just as the sixth season of the medical drama is preparing to debut in Italy, from tomorrow night April 21st prime time on Rai 2.
The ratings of The Good Doctor in the USA
The Good Doctor focuses on the story of young resident Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a doctor with Savant syndrome with special skills, and his colleagues at St. Bonaventure Hospital in San José. Currently in the US – where there are only two episodes left until the season 6 finale – The Good Doctor is followed weekly by an average of 6.2 million viewers, with a rating in the 18-49 demographic target of 0.6. While the numbers have dropped since its fifth season (by 11 and 25 percent, respectively), it still remains one of the network’s most-watched series. Of the 10 dramas airing on ABC, it ranks second in viewership (second only to The Rookie) and fourth by rating.
Will there be a spin-off too?
Meanwhile last March the backdoor pilot of The Good Lawyerthe potential spin-off of The Good Doctor centered on a young lawyer with OCD played by Kennedy McMann and with Felicity Huffman in the cast. ABC has not yet pronounced itself, but will decide in the coming weeks whether to officially order it as a novelty for the next television season.
The situation on renewals and cancellations at ABC
ABC has previously renewed Abbott Elementary (for season 3), Grey’s Anatomy (for season 20), The Rookie (for season 6) e Will Trent (for season 2). However, we are still awaiting news on Alaska Daily, Big Sky, The Company You Keep, The Conners, Home Economics, Not Dead Yet, The Rookie: Feds, Station 19 e The Wonder Years.
