Alex Kurtzman announces a new phase for the Star Trek franchise.

Star Trek: Section 31 will see Georgiou join a secret Starfleet division tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets as she faces the sins of her past. Described as a cross between Mission: Impossible e Guardians of the Galaxythe film will be the beginning of a new phase for the franchise Star Trekwith its demiurge Alex Kurtzman determined to make more feature films (at least one every two years) framed by the tales of Discovery and other series arrived in recent years.
The idea of transforming Star Trek: Section 31 in a film dates back to last summer, when Kurtzman and CBS Studios, the studio behind the franchise, found themselves dealing with Yeoh’s busy schedule (she will also be in the upcoming new Disney+ series Looking for me), fears of having too many shows running at the same time in the franchise, and a desire to carve out a space in the cinematic events segment.
