Cocainorso: the true story behind the film and poetic license
Cocainorso draws inspiration from sad story of a 79kg brown bear who in 1985 ingested a monstrous quantity of cocaine, opening 40 plastic containers. The animal had found the drugs after it had crashed to the ground together with a plane piloted by a smuggler who had overloaded the means of transport. The man had jumped with a parachute but was dead. Compared to the reality of the facts, the screenplay of the film takes more than poetic licence, because the bear didn’t kill or hurt anyone, unlike the hairy protagonist of the horror comedy who makes a real slaughter. At the site of the crime (in Lexington, Kentucky), there is a stuffed cocaine addict bear, and it seems that someone has nicknamed him Pablo Escobear. In an interview, Elizabeth Banks he said that what happens in the film is the revenge that the poor bear would have wanted to carry out against humanity. Precisely this struggle between man and nature has sparked the curiosity of the network, before the film came out, towards the sad story of Cocaine Bear, who died from the white powder. So when Cocainorso came out, many went to see it.
