The duration of the new film by Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon, which will have its world premiere at Cannes 2023, will be historic as it will become one of the longest films ever together with Gone with the wind.

While Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio prepare to walk the Montée de Marches of Cannes 2023, Killers of the Flower Moon makes film history well before its debut because of the river duration, which makes it one of the longest films ever along with Gone with the Wind.
Based on David Grann’s book of the same name, Scorsese’s film is a crime drama that revolves around a series of murders that occurred among members of the Osage tribe in the 1920s, which coincidentally occur when oil is discovered on their tribal land.
While the exact length is yet to be confirmed, The Movie Database lists a length of 3 hours and 54 minutes for Killers of the Flower Moon. However, in an interview with Variety, Cannes Film Festival general delegate Thierry Fremaux also spoke about the film’s runtime. While not certain of the length of the final cut, Fremaux said it is five minutes longer than Once Upon a Time in America (referring, perhaps, to the extended 4-hour, 11-minute cut). In that case, the new movie could be up to 4 hours and 16 minutes long. Screen Rant has contacted Apple for confirmation that it hasn’t arrived yet.
Killers Of The Flower Moon Will Have A “Historic” Lifetime
Even taking into account the interval time and the overture, Gone with the wind lasts about 3 hours and 58 minutes, only four minutes more than the length indicated for Scorsese’s film. Thierry Fremaux does not specify which of the three versions of Once upon a time in America he is comparing it. The extended version is over four hours long, while the US version was only 2 hours and 19 minutes long. The European release was much longer, clocking in at 3 hours 49 minutes, which would line up with The Movie Database’s indications.
While movies over three hours are not all that unusual in the mainstream, following the examples of The Lord of the Rings, Avatar e Avengers: Endgame, a runtime of nearly four hours is a rarity. Killers of the Flower Moon could become one of the longest Hollywood films in history, alongside titles such as Lawrence of Arabia (3 hours and 42 minutes), Ben-Hur (3 hours and 32 minutes) and 1996 Hamlet (4 hours and 2 minutes). It would also become one of the longest films of the 21st century.
Killers of the Flower Moon, for Leonardo DiCaprio “we worked on a masterpiece”
Killers of the Flower Moon it could also break a personal best for Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. Among Scorsese’s longest films are The Irishman (3 hours and 29 minutes) e The Wolf of Wall Street (3 hours), which see DiCaprio in the cast. The longest film in the star’s career is currently Titanic (3 hours 14 minutes), followed by Django Unchained (2 hours and 45 minutes). Killers of the Flower Moon will set a new record for both.
After the launch at Cannes 2023 out of competition, Killers of the Flower Moon will arrive in Italian cinemas starting from 19 October with 01 Distribution and then arrive in streaming on Apple TV +.
