The news of a potential – and now apparently inevitable – series based on the Harry Potter books divides fans, still enraged by the author’s statements against the trans community.
A TV series based on the very successful saga of Harry Potteralready adapted into eight films released between 2001 and 2011, now seems ever closer to obtaining the official order from HBO Max. The project, according to the first leaked advances, foresees well seven seasonsone for each book, and also involves the author as executive producer J.K. Rowling. The indiscretion bomb, dropped by Bloomberg a few days ago, however it was not unanimously received by fans. There are those who wonder if one is really necessary serie remake after the great success of the films (although it is still unclear what exactly it can focus on). The most furious reactions, however, were those of the fans who would not like JK Rowling to be involved in the project. The reason, as you can imagine, is always the same: the writer’s comments considered disparaging towards the trans community.
The Harry Potter TV series: Fan reactions
For many fans, a slavish remake of the films with new actors in the roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron would not make sense. There are those who would rightly prefer a new story, perhaps about Rogues o sui founders of Hogwarts. On Twitter, some fans were very harsh especially against Rowling declaring to not wanting to support any project that involves her. “A few years ago this would have been a dream. Now it’s a slap in the face. JKR destroyed everything that was special about Harry Potter and there is no universe where I will back something that literally gives a villain like her money or recognition” wrote user @lizziethat. “We don’t need any more Harry Potters. Don’t give JK Rowling another penny,” read another post.
What’s the point of making a Harry Potter TV series if the movies and books already exist?
Why review the same things over and over again?Wouldn’t it make more sense to do it about the Marauders?#HarryPotter pic.twitter.com/YWmMp1xeTK

JK Rowling engulfed in controversy
The author of Harry Potter she has been overwhelmed by an avalanche of controversy in recent years for some of her tweets and comments considered transphobic. Despite a long letter of apology published on her website, Rowling has set herself against a large number of fans who have not forgiven her for certain statements. She has since made matters worse by giving other controversial interviews in which she didn’t take a clear stand. Over the years, some film actors have sided with the public by publicly saying that they do not agree with the writer’s statements (this is the case with Daniel Radcliffe ed Emma Watson) while others defended it (like Ralph Fiennes ed Helena Bonham Carter). Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, has expressed himself several times in support of the author and now peace seems to have been made between her and the production house of the films (and of the probable TV series). It could not be otherwise if you want to expand the franchise, since JK Rowling owns all the rights to the books and has the final say on everything.
