If most studios were given the choice of developing an entirely new project, or further developing something that already aired a decade or so ago, most executives would probably choose the latter. That’s why it’s perfectly reasonable, in 2023, to expect new episodes or movies based on a TV series like Scrubsthe last season of which aired 13 years ago.
The topic of reboots and sequels is so common, in fact, that the creator of Scrubs Bill Lawrence said it is inevitable that the cast and crew will return for new content in the future:
“The cast of that show and the writers are so good that they are all working. And the main reason for doing something like this is not the work itself, but the fact that we love being together. I think a new project is bound to happen “.
If a Scrubs movie were to actually be made, the writer thinks that pretty much every actor from the TV series would return:
“I’ve been very lucky in my career, because 99% of the people I’ve worked with were people I still wanted to spend time with. I think everyone in Spin City, except Connie Britton because she was always busy with other shows, but I’m going to get her eventually – she was in Scrubs. I don’t want to say too much but I think people will see Neil Flynn again next year. I’d like to find a way to bring some of Ted Lasso into this world.”.
