Shrinking marked the great return of Jason Segel to the world of television comedy, nine years after the final of How I Met Your Mother. For the occasion, the actor has decided to collaborate with a man who understands television shows and who has signed one of the best comedies ever. We are talking about Bill Lawrence, which he had already masterminded Scrubs and recently spawned a new smash hit,Ted Lasso. The story of Shrinking revolves around a psychotherapist named Jimmy, who is trying to recover from the abyss, which has fallen after the death of his wife. Around him we find a whole kaleidoscope of interesting characters who try to help the protagonist, but who at the same time also have to manage their own messes. The added value of Shrinking And Harrison Fordwho in the role of the grumpy Dr. Paul Rhodes managed to break into the hearts of viewers. The first season closed with a very emotional ending, but what are the plans for the future?
Bill Lawrence teased that the story of Shrinking was designed to be divided into three seasons.
Apple TV+ has officially renewed the TV series for a second season, while nothing is known yet about the third season. However, the creator of the show has very clear ideas about the story he wants to tell and is already looking beyond that. Together with the other co-creators, Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, he decided which direction the series should go from now on. What they want to do is tell the struggle of a man who manages to get out of the black hole he’s in and that start living again. Jimmy’s story should be divided into three acts and in each season a phase of his recovery and healing process could be addressed: this is Bill Lawrence’s project. The co-creators of Shrinking they anticipated it during a long interview they gave to Variety to talk about the season 1 finale that hit Apple TV+ on March 24. On this occasion Bill Lawrence he said:
“We thought about three seasons: the beginning, the middle and the end. Part of the fun for me doing tv series with actors like Jason Segel e Harrison Ford, is that you can tell the actors you’ve always wanted to work with, ‘If you give me three seasons, it’s okay if you want to leave after that.’ So all I can tell you is that the whole crew shares this project.”
During the first season the character of Jimmy, beautifully played by Jason Segel, he coped with the pain of losing his wife. After a car accident took away his life partner, the protagonist buried all his suffering and concentrated on trying to help his patients. Slowly, however, Jimmy managed to come to terms with the pain and the sweet final scene that saw him as the protagonist with his daughter Alice proved it. And now what awaits us? Over the next few seasons, Jimmy is expected to continue his healing journey, as he explained Bill Lawrence:
“In the first year we faced the pain, the second year will be about forgiveness and the third year will be about moving forward”.
