Maggie Pierce’s interpreter hangs up her white coat after 9 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy: “Playing her has been one of the true joys of my life”.
Gray Sloan Memorial will have to do without another of its most brilliant surgeons. Kelly McCrearywho played Meredith Gray’s stepsister (Ellen Pompeo) Maggie Pierce and chief of cardiothoracic surgery at the hospital since the end of season 10, he quits Grey’s Anatomy after nine years. She reveals it Deadline sharing the message with which the actress wanted to leave the fans.
Grey’s Anatomy also says goodbye to Maggie
Kelly McCreary will appear for the last time in the series in the episode of the nineteenth season aired in the United States on April 13th (in Italy, however, the medical drama returns with new episodes on March 22nd on Disney+). She then she, like Ellen Pompeo, will be making a trip to Gray Sloan one more time before the season ends (presumably in the finale). This is the message that the actress wanted to share with her fans:
After nine seasons, I say goodbye to Maggie Pierce and her Gray Sloan family. It has been a great honor to be a part of such a legendary television institution as Grey’s Anatomy. I will always be grateful to Shonda Rhimes, Krista Vernoff and ABC for the opportunity and the incredible fans for their passionate support. Spending nine years exploring a character inside and out, reaching a global audience with impactful stories, is a rare gift. It has afforded me the opportunity to collaborate, learn and be inspired by countless brilliant artists both in front of and behind the camera. Playing Maggie Pierce has been one of the true joys of my life and I walk away with deep gratitude for every step of this journey. I am excited for the next chapter in my life and what the future holds.
Maggie’s 9-Season Journey: Why Kelly McCreary is Leaving Grey’s Anatomy
A model student and control freak, Maggie was introduced in the penultimate episode of the tenth season of Grey’s Anatomy. On that occasion it was revealed that she was the biological daughter of Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Meredith’s late mother, Ellis Gray (Kate Burton). McCrary was then promoted to series regular in season 11 and she has appeared in every episode since then, except for a brief episode arc in season 18 when she was away from the set for a short time following the birth of her first son. Over the years, Maggie has had several relationships, most notably with DeLuca (James Gianniotti) e Jackson (Jesse Williams), until she met Winston (Anthony Hill) which followed her to Seattle and the two wed in season 17 only to wonder, in later seasons, if they hadn’t been rushing things too far. In season 19 they are going through a crisis.
Deadline let it be known that Maggie’s exit, as was done with Meredith’s, was carefully planned. It seems that the actress has informed the producers well in advance of her desire to leave the show and pursue new job opportunities. So the writers could plan a final story arc for her character.
The words of the showrunner (for a little while) Krista Vernoff
“Kelly McCreary is an author’s dream come true; bright, nuanced, thoughtful and kind. We will deeply miss her and her gorgeous Dr. Maggie Pierce,” the showrunner said Grey’s Anatomy Krista Vernoff. Also the latter, we remember, will leave the guide of the series (like that of the spin-off Station 19) at the end of the current season. We still don’t know what the future holds for Grey’s Anatomygiven that the fate of the series has not yet been decided. To make its decision, ABC will carefully evaluate fan reactions and, above all, ratings.
