Happy birthday to the contemporary action icon Kurt Russell, who turns 72 today. It would have been all too easy to fit in the five film in streaming all the movies he did with John Carpenter and shut it down. We didn’t opt for this solution in the first place because 1997: escape from New York it is sensationally not available on Italian platforms, also because Russell has also shot other films worthy of mention, and the selected ones fully demonstrate it. As always, happy reading.
Five streaming films starring the icon Kurt Russell
- Big trouble in Chinatown
- Tequila Connection
- Breakdown – The trap
- Vanilla Sky
- Bone Tomahawk
Big Trouble in Chinatown (1986)
A movie with John Carpenter but we absolutely had to include it, so we chose their more light-hearted and fun collaboration, a fantasy full of great action with truly terrifying moments. Big trouble in Chinatown entertains with an admirable lightness and attention to the rhythm of the story, becoming a cult film for generations to follow. Also in the cast Kim Cattrall. Gorgeous entertainment. Available on Google Play, Amazon Prime Video, Disney +.
Tequila Connection (1988)
The great screenwriter Robert Towne passes behind the camera for a neo-noir that sees a majestic trio of protagonists: in addition to Russell in the guardian version of the law we find Mel Gibson e Michelle Pfeiffer. Tequila Connection it is a melancholic and very dense film, photographed with absolute mastery by the great Haskell Wexler. A must see, it is one of the best genre films of a remarkable period of cinema. Available on CHILIGoogle Play, Amazon Prime Video.
Breakdown (1997)
Somewhat surprisingly, this on-the-road thriller sees Kurt Russell embark on a search for his missing wife, who has been kidnapped by strangers who force this common man into a ferocious manhunt. Breakdown – The trap it proves to be a remarkable show that launches the director’s career Jonathan Mostow. Russell is perfect in the role and gives the film much needed credibility. When the genre can give heart-pounding. Available on Google Play, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount +.
Vanilla Sky (2000)
Unusual and calm role for Russell, that of the scientist who wants to help the disfigured Tom Cruise to find peace, at least internally. A Cameron Crowe inspired (and underrated in this film) makes of Vanilla Sky a beautiful melodrama to see, with moments of great cinema and a soundtrack that is as always wonderful. Besides a Cruise in great shape too Penelope Cruzas well as Cameron Diaz and a group of supporting characters. Difficult but intense film, to be re-evaluated in our opinion. Available on CHILI, Google Play, NetflixAmazon Prime video, NOWParamount +.
Bone Tomahawk (2015)
We close with this very harsh western that does not hesitate to transform itself into a visually extreme torture-horror, a work truly capable of putting the viewer to the test. S. Craig Zahler churns out an atypical and cursed western, which makes you suffer. In the cast of Bone Tomahawk There are also Patrick Wilson e Richard Jenkins. To see, but only if you have the so-called hair on your stomach … Available on Google Play, Amazon Prime Video.
