Craig Mazinshowrunner of HBO’s The Last of Us, teased that the second season will be quite different than some parts of The Last of Us: Parte II.
Previously Mature had confirmed that the next chapter would try to entirely adapt the 2020 sequel, but now things would seem to have changed: while the general narrative traits will still derive from the Part II, Mature recently indicated that he and fellow producer Neil Druckman they may already be planning to make changes to what fans might expect.
During a recent press event, Mature talked about what is currently planned for new episodes of the TV series. In general, the showrunner again clarified that The Last of Us: Parte II will serve as a blueprint for the plot, but he also pointed out that fans still don’t know what the new season might have in store:
“It will be different, in the same way this season has been different. Sometimes it will be radically different, sometimes it will barely be. But it will be different, it will be something unique. It will not be exactly like the game. It will be the show that I and I Neil we want to achieve”.
Based on what the star Peter Pascal recently teased, filming on season 2 could potentially begin before the end of 2023. If that actually happens, the release of the new episodes could take place in 2024 or early 2025.
