The XXX edition of Romics will take place at the Fiera di Roma between 30 March and 2 April, five pavilions for many initiatives: the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros, a tribute to Leiji Matsumoto and special guests such as John Howe, concept artist of the Lord of the Rings.

A synthesis of beauty, color, curiosity and amazement, according to the artistic director Sabrina Perucca, who presented us the program of this spring edition. So let’s open the dances of this XXX appointment with a taste of the comic book at Romics, with an eye to the usual Romics d’Oro for Lifetime Achievement.
Romics XXX: comics and surroundings, between Romics d’Oro and Paperugantino
Katja Centomo is among the Romics d’Oro by Romics XXX: as she herself told us, over the years she has had difficulty presenting herself in just one way, but now she includes her multimedia activity (between comics, animation and artistic direction) under the name of “transmedia storytelling“.Recent author of the graphic novel series “7 crimes“, has therefore only recently deviated from its spontaneous vocation, that is, the story for the youngest (Monster Allergy among his most famous works): however, it is not such a big leap, he explains, because if in the form there is a difference between addressing children and addressing adults, he does not find substantial differences in the themes.
The Catalan designer will also be awarded the Romics d’Oro Marcos Martin (Batman, Dr. Strange, The Walking Dead), the talented Italian Manuel Fior (Five thousand kilometers per second, The variations of Orsay, The days of the blackbird, Miss Else and Rosso Oltremare and The interview, plus the latest graphic novel Hypericon) and John Howeillustrator and concept artist (for The Lord of the Rings e Lo Hobbit by Peter Jackson, Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice). Regarding the latter, Howe will also participate in activities and meetings in the Movie Village pavilion. Fixed exhibitions will also be dedicated to the works of Centomo, Fior and Martín within the four days of the Romics.
Once again the Disney cartoonist Marco Gervasio will propose one Mickey Mouse variant cover on the occasion of Romics and of the album that contains his story in two parts Paperugantino: after Papertotti and Donald Gladiator, Gervasio explained to us, he felt compelled to complete his Disney transposition of the Roman folklore. The jury of Romics Comics 2023 is still at work to judge the well one hundred and thirty titles received, while the Center for books and readingin anticipation of the usual initiative “May of books“, will select young talents for the illustration of the national campaign, through the competition “Let’s draw the May – Contest for illustrators”.
One of the most underrated areas of comics will instead be the center of the meeting on Friday 31 March “Comic lettering, art and craft“, in collaboration with the Comics & Graphic Novels Commission of AIE – Associazione Italiana Editori.
It should be noted that, alongside the re-proposition of theArtist Alley where the authors will be able to interact freely with the public, are expected as always special gueststhis time of the likes of Yudori (The conquest of the sky, for J-Pop Edizioni) and the volleyball world champion Andrea Lucky Lucchettatestimonial of the animated series Super Spike Ballwhose new installments will be launched in a meeting.
The legendary Vincenzo Mollicaalready Romics d’Oro in the last edition, will instead celebrate i 40 years of his special for RAI “Literature drawn”: it was the first time that, with illustrious guests such as Hugo Pratt and Federico Fellini, public television told the world of author comics, when the expression “graphic novel” didn’t even exist. The appointment is for April 1st (for details, consult the programme).
Romics XXX: the cinema
Il Movie Village of the XXX edition of Romics will dive into the 100 Years of Warner Bros. (da little discovery), with a exhibition of historical posters of films covering the period between the fifties and seventies: the boys of IED of Rome will reinterpret one hundred of the most iconic films of the major, using different techniques for their works, on display at the Fair. Apart from the aforementioned meeting with John Howeis also scheduled as a special guest Gaia Bussolatisenior visual effects supervisor, active at EDI – Italian Digital Effects and in international works such as Black Adam, Jungle Cruise, Le Mans ’66 and American Gods.
The protagonists of meetings and entertainment opportunities will also be upcoming films such as the phenomenon Cocainorso of Elizabeth Banks, the anime The First Slamdunk (which gave Avatar 2 a hard time in Japan!), the Italian horror film Pantafa, Super Mario Bros. – The Movieplus a focus on the multimedia operation of The Three Musketeers – D’Artagnandivided into feature film, manga and novel adapted from the screenplay.
Romics XXX, between celebrations and unmissable appointments
In XXX Romics there are also others celebrations with impressive numbers, for example i 45 years of Grendizer in Italybroadcast for the first time in 1978: the master Vince Tempera and the DJ Massimo Alberti will celebrate live on April 2nd with “Actarus – Ufo Robot (Beat Kong Remix)”, even if the song will already be available digitally from March 31st. I am instead 40 years of the football anime Holly & Benji: the legend of a generation will be celebrated by the historical voice actors Fabrizio Vidale (Holly), Giorgio Borghetti (Benji), in a meeting on April 2 with Fabio Bartoli (journalist and essayist) and Mirko Fabbreschi (musician and TV author).
The recently deceased Leiji Matsumotofather of Capitan Harlockwill be remembered in a special tribute, in the company of Alessandro Falciatore (Animeclick), Mirko Fabbreschi (TV musician and author), Adriano Forgione (Nippon Shock), Germano Massenzio (Cartoonist), Francesco Nicodemo (Leiji Matsumoto Cultural Association), the Raggi Fotonici (authors/interpreters of acronymsTV), Vince Tempera (Composer and musician) and Gianni
Giuliano (Italian voice of Captain Harlock).
Il Dubbing Grand Gala will see at this round awards for Peter Biondi, Aurora Cancian e Francis Prandoas well as a meeting with Alexander Fourthofficial Italian voice of baby mouse!
In the matter of music and voices, George Vanni will be one of special guestperforming on Saturday April 1st at cartoon theme songs from the 90scome Pokémon, Dragon Ball, Detective Conan e One Piece.
Mandatory event now for the Romics is also the gara Romics Cosplay Award on April 2, valid for international selections for the World Cosplay Summit 2023 in Nagoya. You breathe the Orient in K-pop Contest Italia Special Romics of April 1st, a hymn to one of the musical genres most loved by the very young, between dance and music.
