Oscar 2023, Jimmy Kimmel scherza su Will Smith: "Who commits violence, will be awarded as best actor"

The host of the Oscars Jimmy Kimmel did not miss an opportunity to make fun of Will Smith’s slap to Chris Rock who “lived up” the past edition of the Academy Awards ceremony.

“Five Irish actors are nominated tonight which means the chances of a fight have just increased”Kimmel joked in his opening monologue before continuing to address the audience: “We want you to have a good time, to feel safe, and most importantly, we want me to feel safe. If anyone in this theater commits an act of violence at any point during the show, they will receive the Academy Award for Best Actor and he will be allowed to give a 19-minute speech. But seriously, the Academy has a crisis management team in place. If something unpredictable or violent happens during the show, just sit back and do absolutely nothing. Maybe give a hug the aggressor”.

“And if one of you gets angry over a joke and decides to take revenge, it won’t have an easy life”Kimmel concluded, addressing the “fighters” in the audience like Creed star Michael B. Jordan and martial artist Michelle Yeoh.

Later, about two hours into the ceremony, Kimmel joked: “At this point in the show, you’re kind of missing the slap, right?”

The host concluded the live with a final slap joke, walking backstage to a sign titled “Number of Oscars telecasts without incident” and turning the zero into one.

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars as the latter featured in the Best Documentary category. Rock made a controversial joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head, which made her battle with alopecia public. After winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for King Richard, Smith was banned for ten years from attending the Academy Awards.
