The young singer regained his courage only in Canale 5 talent show hosted by Maria De Filippi:
I showed up in clubs, annoying everyone, asking to sing. I didn’t tell my parents anything, I said to go out with friends. Once I went to sing in a club in Naples where there were 500 people. I start singing and, I swear, there are three left, two were my friends. I came home exhausted and told myself ‘I can’t do this in life’. For the first time I lacked the courage to continue. For five months I didn’t make music, I didn’t listen to music, I got into my car and turned off the radio. I was 17, after a few months I wrote ‘What hurts’ and I introduced it to Amici. There I had the courage to show myself.

I used to play football, but while I was doing it in my head I sang. At some point I realized that I wanted to do that in life. Dad always took me to his concerts, and I looked at him from behind the stage and thought ‘how I wish I was on that stage’. Around the age of fourteen I went to my father and confessed to him that I wanted to do the same job as him. I began to cry, because I was truly convinced it was a wrong thing, perhaps because of the collective imagination that “the son of” was a recommended figure. Dad told me something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life: ‘Always remember that I will never put fish on your table. I can give you a fishing rod, but you have to fish it and cook it yourself.’ So the greatest luck is having a father who gives you lots of advice.
