A quick musical review on the five songs competing for the 2023 Oscar for best original song, and which will enliven the awards ceremony to be held on the night of March 12th.
The Academy Award for Best Song was first awarded in 1934, and goes to songwriters (not performers, unless they’re themselves writers) who have composed an original song specifically for a film. As known to anyone who has seen at least once that strange, very long, curious and often exhausting television program which is the Night the Oscarsthe five nominated songs are performed on stage at various times during the show before arriving at the moment of the final awards ceremony, thus becoming a show within a show, and referring to the films to which they contributed.
