Michael B. Jordan he couldn’t dream of a better directorial debut: his Creed IIIwhich he also co-starred with Jonathan Majorshere as his opponent and nemesis/ex-friend, has become over the weekend the highest-grossing sports film debut in North America. In fact, in the USA the third chapter of the saga, a spin-off of Rockythis time without the presence and supervision of Sylvester Stallone, started with $58,600,000. The previous record holder was the remake of The Karate Kid, which in 2010 recorded 55,600,000 (about 76 with inflation, if we wanted to take it into account). A closer comparison can be that with Le Mans ’66 – The great sfida of 2019, which started with 31,400,000 (36,700,000 updated to inflation).
The differences with the two previous chapters are also heartbreaking: Creed settled for $29,600,000, Creed II of 35,500,000. It must also be said that the comparison, although obvious when talking about the saga itself, should however take into account the processing budgets. The original Creed traveled between 35 and 40 million in cost, while Creed III reached 90, more than double: the saga no longer belongs to the middleweights, but look at the blockbuster heavyweights. As such, its $100,400,000 worldwide gross is still not enough to recoup its budget: if good morning starts in the morning, however, the road will be downhill.
