Dark was first released on Netflix in 2017, announcing Baran bo Odar e Jantje Frisian as a uniquely talented creative duo. After the successful conclusion of the television series after 3 seasons, the team released 1899a sci-fi mystery show that has garnered a passionate following, but, according to streaming platform Netflix, hasn’t achieved the viewership numbers needed to warrant a second season, amply defending their motivations in a recent interview.
Odar and Friese, the creators of Dark, have announced their next project for the streaming platform
After the deletion of 1899the duo banked on an adaptation of Something Is Killing The Childrensuccessful cartoon by James Tynion IV e Werther Dell’Edera posted by Boom! Studios. Bo Odar e Frisian they will be writers, showrunners and executive producers of the new series, which revolves around a small town plagued by child-eating monsters and the young woman who goes on the hunt for these creatures.
Something Is Killing the Children was first released in 2019 as a limited series, quickly developing a strong following and being promoted to a permanent series. The upcoming adaptation looks like it will be an interesting addition to ‘s résumés Bo Odar e Frisianwith the television series that will allow them to delve further into the horror genre.
Is Dark That 1899 have occasionally veered into horror territory, but Something Is Killing the Children it would seem to take this genre to a whole new level.
Something Is Killing the Children it also features a very different type of protagonist than the creative duo’s previous works, with a named monster hunter Erica Slaughter at the center of the story. Unlike 1899which featured several protagonists slowly uncovering a greater mystery, Something Is Killing the Children it should present a much more active and confident heroine, rallying other teenagers to her cause. Is Dark That 1899 were rated TV-MA (meaning television series intended for mature audiences), with both shows occasionally featuring shocking violence, and it seems likely that the next adaptation will continue this rating trend.
While Dark ran for three critically acclaimed seasons on the streamer, telling a complete story, 1899 was cut short before too many of the TV series’ real mysteries were revealed. It is unclear whether the deletion of 1899 will have some effect on Something Is Killing the Children in terms of the story told in season 1 and the mysteries it could leave unsolved.
Sadly, there’s no word yet on when audiences should expect the German duo’s television series to hit Netflix, but it probably won’t be anytime soon.
