In the episode entitled “the secret of the gnomon”, everyone wonders: John B dies in Outer Banks 3? Well no. Even if he is injured following the clash with Ward – who is working with Singh-, the boy – together with the rest of his friends – manages to arrive more or less unscathed at the end of the third season.

The final installment of season 3 sees John B, Sarah Cameron and Big John in the final confrontation with Singh, who wants to get his hands on the treasure of El Dorado. Thanks to Denmark Tanny’s letter, John B and his father join forces and manage to translate the gnomon. Discovering Ward’s double-crossing, Big John has no intention of allowing Singh to grab the treasure and throws a stick of dynamite at him, apparently killing him. The Pogues don’t have time to celebrate the gold they’ve managed to rescue from the cave – there’s another threat waiting for them.
There is still Ward, who however – with a heroic gesture – sacrifices himself by taking the full bullet that Ryan, Singh’s assistant, shoots in Sarah’s direction. In his last heroic gesture, Ward hurls Ryan off a cliff, neutralizing him once and for all. Another notable death of the episode is that of Big John, who succumbs due to the injuries sustained during the firefight.
After giving him and Ward a proper burial in the heart of the rainforest, the Pogues seem to turn their backs on their life as treasure hunters… At least for the next eighteen months. Everything seems to be back to normal, but it’s a quiet that isn’t going to last long.
The story jumps forward: JJ has bought the charter boat, while Pope will soon be moving to study elsewhere, Kie is busy protecting turtles and Sarah and John B are dedicated to their surf shop. Everything changes when, in front of John B and Sarah, an old man shows up and presents them with the logbook of the pirate Blackbeard. Another adventure awaits them, as you can tell from the smile that appears on John’s face.
